How safe is Recife, Brazil?
How does the crime rate in major U.S. cities like New York, Chicago or Philadelphia? What suggestions do you have "mixed" aside from the obvious of not looking like a tourist naive or as if from media?
Im an American who lived in Recife for a year with my wife who is from the neighboring city of Olinda. As for personal safety in terms of its no worse than any other major American city like New York or Los Angeles. areas about you and avoid deserted As long as you keep your wits in the night, securing their valuables, no jewels showy, you should be fine. Just remember to use common sense, if something doesn't seem right … probably isn't. As to the mix? No bother. There is nothing that you can use or do to fool the locals into thinking the Brazilian. They seem to have a sixth sense when it comes to stains gringos. But do not worry, not a problem. There are lots of foreigners around its not an unusual sight. Some general tips? Try to stay around the crowds. Taxis do not use public buses (many rounds as well). Avoid walking around at night (except public places very close to the beach) And most importantly, just use common sense as any other big city.
